A Breakthrough in Context Compression and What It Means for Airgentic

A new research milestone has emerged that has the potential to reshape how large language models handle information. DeepSeek OCR, published just a week ago, introduces an approach that allows models to fit up to ten times more context by converting text into images before processing.


The core idea is remarkably simple yet powerful. Instead of feeding models raw text tokens, a full page of text is rendered as an image. The system then reconstructs both the words and layout with around ninety seven percent accuracy while achieving significant compression. In effect, a thousand words can be packed into a single image, allowing models to work faster and at lower cost.


In practice, this means a PDF page can be treated like a high resolution photograph. A compact vision encoder compresses the page into a dense, information rich representation. A lightweight decoder then converts this representation back into structured text the model can use for reasoning.


Airgentic has been using AI vision for more than a year to interpret images, tables and diagrams. This new research expands what is possible and introduces several advantages. Entire manuals and workflows can fit into context at once. More signal is preserved per token with less waste. Longer conversation histories and reference packs become feasible without increasing cost.
